Alvey Jones is a Michigan painter, printmaker and book artist whose work has been exhibited locally and nationally and is in many public and private collections in the United States and Europe.

   His artist books are in the collections of the University of Michigan, Indiana University, the University of Virginia and the Than More Museum in Nyiracsad, Hungary. He earned a BFA in illustration and design, an MA in art history, and did graduate work in art history as a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Illinois.

   He served in the U.S. Army as an illustrator in the Training Aids Section of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

   Alvey worked professionally as an artist, graphic designer and illustrator in Phoenix, Arizona, and New York City. He was art director for the Division of Broadcasting at the University of Illinois. He taught art history at Arizona State University and the University of Illinois, and also taught bookbinding at the Hollander’s School of Book and Paper Arts in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

   In 2022 he won a Distinguished Book Award at the Miniature Book Society’s annual Miniature Book Competition. 

   He is a former co-owner and exhibiting artist of the WSG Gallery in Ann Arbor and a current member of the Miniature Book Society and the Ann Arbor Stamp Club.
